The owner role cannot be changed
A space has exactly one owner. That role is transferred, not revoked, and the person cannot be removed either.
What you see
In the owner's member record, Revoke admin role and Remove from Workspace are missing. If something tries anyway, the app answers that the workspace owner's role cannot be changed. The same happens when you try to revoke your own admin role.
Why
A space has exactly one owner, and that role is the last instance. If it could be revoked, or the person removed, there would be a space with nobody able to manage it. That is why ownership is transferred rather than revoked. On transfer the previous owner becomes an admin and the new person becomes the owner.
That you cannot revoke your own admin role has the same reason in miniature: you would lock yourself out of the very screens you are standing in.
What you can do
- If you want to hand over ownership, first promote the future owner to admin. See Assign roles.
- The transfer itself does not exist as a button in the app or on the web yet. Until it does, this is a case to report to selfdesk.
- If somebody else only needs to manage, the admin role is enough. It can manage members, contracts and settings.
- To get rid of your own admin role, have another person with a management role revoke it.
If that is not enough
While you are the sole owner, your account deletion is blocked as well. See Account deletion is blocked. If the app does something wrong: report a problem.
